Mayor Ekema Initiates Pioneer Buea Council Football Club

After patronizing four (4) inter quarter football editions for the legendary and hospitable people of Buea, Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge would stop at nothing to enable budding footballers of his municipality harness their dreams.

The Municipal Don is piloting a scheme geared toward creating a maiden third Division Football Club of the Buea Council in 2018; and affiliate it to the South West regional league of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT. Such is an initiative also taken by the Limbe City Council, who are now worthy and proud managers of blossoming St. Peters FC (a regional championship side).

The ambitious Politician sounded very categorical on his dream on Sunday 20 August 2017, while presiding at one among a series of finals within the ambit of the 7th Buea Council Inter Quarter Football Cup Competition.

The final in the Bonavada Court Area involved Fair Play FC of Koke and Cambodia FC from Bokwai. Fair Play FC were decorated champions in front of a huge crowd at the Bonakanda Community Field, after they out-played Cambodia 6-5 on post-match penalties.

The game had ended goalless at regulation time.

It was the first final to be staged at Bonakanda since the inception of the multi-faceted summer soccer jamboree.

At the end of the colourful ceremony, Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge said a special committee had been created to select players for a would-be third division football club to be run by the giant municipality.

This will unarguably serve as a perfect platform for future soccer stars like Njie Clinton, Ndip Tambe, George Bokwe, and Niba Donald. The first three who have appeared in national colours began as such.

Before communing with the population of the Bonavada court Area, the Mayor and his entourage had converged on the St. Paul College arena to initiate the pre-finals on Friday 18 August 2017, in Bonjongo.

Etinde FC of Ekonjo lifted the coveted trophy after triumphing at penalty kicks against Rising Stars of Wokoka Village.

In every case, winners have bagged home at least FCFA 300,000 with runners up earning close to FCFA 200,000 among other juicy individual prizes.

“The essence of this tournament, which is one of the six-faceted aid scheme of the Buea Council, is to occupy the youths, help them build their football dream …,” Mayor Ekema would say in every stop.

According to Communication Officer, Lingongo Oscar Musonge, the municipal echelon will grace the Post & Telecommunications School Field on Tuesday 22 August 2017, for another episode of this spectacle of development.

The derby fixture set at 3 pm local time will pit Richgang of Vasingi to Fans Club Eto’o, all from Buea Town.

Note that the last lap of the first phase of this fabulous jamboree takes place at the CBC Field in Mile 16, playing host to the Muea Court Area.

The 7th edition of the Buea Council Inter Quarter Cup Competition will end on the 2nd of September, 2017. A grand finale (Super Cup) featuring the four finalists from the respective court areas will be staged at the Omnisport Stadium in Buea.
