CUSA Controversially Protest 3-1 Loss to Almighty Maumu Youths
Two South West Division 2 matches were played at the Omnisport Stadium in Molyko Buea Sunday 6 august 2017.
Continental FA and Buea United separated on a 3-3 draw in the first game while Maumu Youths overpowered Catholic University 3-1 later.
The Crucial Derby
Coach Njuku Barnabas’ Maumu now have 6 points from two consecutive away games. The Maumu side were more or less dominant and pressuring in the early minutes of the first half. They finally scored the 20th minute after their first two had been ruled out on account of off-side.
Three minutes later, a long-range strike from Yannick Ofon stretched Maumu’s lead.
CUSA responded with a series of counter moves which suffered poor executions in front of the wood work.
However, Coach Njuku’s much experienced side kept dictating the tempo with flexible winger, Ngalame Clovis, and fellow forward Bright Isuma at the fore. Consequently, the piling pressure resulted in a third goal. CUSA’s goalkeeper, Ayukosock Grekson, on a highline flight got lobbed upon. Both sides regained the dressing room with Maumu 3-0 up.
It was the only opportunity for CUSA’s Coach Brandon Enobi, who was serving his two-match ban, to reunite with his demoralized foot soldiers.

Upon resumption, CUSA managed to pull one back through its right back Ebong. Ebong would later squander a penalty spot kick, following an inside-area handball foul admitted by the centre referee.
The anointing presence of CUSA President, Rev. Father George Nkeze Njingwa, couldn’t even play the trick as the ‘Saints’ kept crumbling in front of the Maumu goal.
The closing minutes of the game was marked by controversy as CUSA pressed to file a protest, claiming Maumu’s midfielder, Yanic Akum Ebangha, was ineligible having ‘illegally’ moved away from rivals Cinyodev.

Coach Njuku was disappointed with this saying it was unfounded, and that in any case, such protests must come before kick-off.

In his post-match interview to reporters, CUSA Deputy Coach Alain also said the protest was critically necessary. He however admitted his opponents played well. It should be noted that the controversial atmosphere, which was sparked at virtually the 90th minute, is another hot coal in the court of the much criticized homologation and disciplinary committee.
The group of vibrant Maumu supporters booed at the CUSA team, claiming their protest was out of the fear of defeat.
