Kumba, Tiko Subscribe for S.W. Inter-City Basketball Challenge

A planning meeting has on Thursday July 13, 2017, taken place at the Molyko Sports Complex, Buea South West Region of Cameroon, ahead of the South West Inter-city basketball challenge expected to be launched next week in Buea.

The meeting co-chaired by the General Coordinator Ifose Emile Mbella and Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, Chawa Fabu Elcid, grouped at least five representatives of basketball clubs that have engaged with the inter-city competition.

Some of the teams include: Kumba Revolution represented by Mr Ngamli Ibrahim, Tiko Monsters represented by Mr Ejimofo Charles, Molyko Devils represented by Mr Zedong Steve, Buea Town Legends represented by Mr Matute McNair, and the youngest club, New Mindset, represented by Mr Enow Brice.

Deliberations centred on rules and regulations governing the games expected to begin on Wednesday the 19th of July at the Molyko ground. Teams were also urged to submit identification papers and passport size photographs which will be used to produce licenses.

The inter-city basketball challenge will unfold under the auspices of the South West Regional League of Basketball.

Talking to Volcanic Sports, Kumba Club emissary, Mr Ngamli Ibrahim said though they are coming to learn, they also want to show to the World what the Green City can do in the sport.

Buea Town Legends’ delegate, Matute McNair said after playing together for over a decade, his group which is made up of professionals and amateurs, want to enjoy the game at another level. “Why not clinch the trophy if we can”, he concluded.

New Mindset’s Enow Brice said, “We know that we are the youngest. We want to play and enjoy the game. That’s just it”.

Zedong Steve of Molyko Devils together with one of his players Batuoh sounded ready and fearless. But only the end shall tell.

A cash prize of FCFA 200.000 has been tentatively provided. The competition aimed at reviving the spirit of basketball and encouraging young talents was initially scheduled to take off last week but suffered some setbacks.

It is open to players in the region who are at least 17 years old. Over ten teams of 12 players each are expected for the holiday jamboree, and a team possessing more than an elite basketball player must pay FCFA 5000 in each case.

Registration fee stands at FCFA 10.000 and ends on Sunday the 16th of July 2017.  Note that games will be played home and away.
