Six madridistas nominated for CL positional awards

Real Madrid dominate the positional awards for the 2016-17 edition of the Champions League with six players amongst the candidates for best defender, midfielder and forward. 

Marcelo, Ramos, Casemiro, Kroos, Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo feature in the list alongside Buffon, Bonucci, Dybala, Neuer, Oblak and Messi.

The winners will be voted for by the managers of 32 teams from the Champions League 2016/17 group stage as well as 55 journalists chosen by European Sports Media (ESM), representing each of the UEFA member federations. 

The winners will be announced during the Champions League group stage draw, which will take place on the 24th August in Monaco, where the UEFA prize for Best Male and Female Player of the year will also be awarded.

Candidates for UEFA Champions League 2016/17 Best Goalkeeper: Buffon, Neuer and Oblak.

Candidates for best defender: Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Bonucci.

Candidates for best midfielder: Casemiro, Kroos and Modric.

Candidates for best forward: Cristiano Ronaldo, Dybala and Messi.
