Zamalek Badly Need Cameroon Coach Hugo Broos

2017 Africa Cup of Nations champion Hugo Broos has officially turned down an offfer by Cairo giants Zamalek due to low salary.

A source in Zamalek had disclosed that officials in the club initiated talks with Hugo Broos to lead the Whites. They are in dire need of Augusto Inacio’s replacement. The Portuguese’s contract was recently terminated on mutual consent.

Reports indicated that Inacio fell out with Zamalek board.

However, the 65-year-old Belgian manager was actually interested in the job but at the end of the day both parties could not reach an agreement over his salary.

An insider said the Belgian coach asked to get 1.5 million euros as an annual salary for him alone, meaning that his assistants would get their salaries as well.

Zamalek directors are said to have proposed 900,000 euros a year for the coach and his assistants through an agent. Though the offer has been rejected, Zamalek officials are continuing negotiations with Mr Broos.

The four-time Belgian manager of the year is set to remain with the Indomitable Lions as they prepare to host the newly-expanded 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Anderlecht manager successfully guided Cameroon to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations title with a victory against Egypt in the final, despite missing out on seven members of the squad prior to the tournament for various reasons.
