Basketball: Ex-Volcanic Warrior Shines in China
Former Volcanic Warrior, Joel Henry Épée Etonde, is making great coaching strides in basketball while advancing studies in China.
The over 25-year-old also plays for the basketball team of Shandong University since arriving in September 2016. Talking to Volcanic Sports, the player-coach said,
“The remarkable difference l have can be summarized in one word, fundamentality.”
“Concerning my basketball back home, l greatly thank Coach Ifose Emile Mbella who did not only teach me basketball and spirituality, but made it possible for me to pass on the light to other people,” Etonde continued.
Mr. Etonde started his basketball carreer under Coach Ifose Emile at Sasse College before joining the coach’s elite one basketball club Volcanic Warriors Buea. Experience garnered from the preceding now helps him train children and adults in China.
As a matter of fact, before going abroad, he served as the Assistant Coach of Deido Basketball Junior team in Douala.
His determination and dexterity on the court enabled him to excel in other disciplines like volleyball and handball. And that is what he is imparting in children who love playing basketball in China.
The basketball star who has described his former coach (Mr. Ifose) as a wonderful entity arrived in China in September last year. He played for International Students’ Basketball Team of Shandong University. The tournament played in Yangzhou was organized for all International students in China.
Because of Joel Henry Épée Etonde’s performances during the competition, the coach of the university team integrated him into the Shandong University basketball team.
Other former Volcanic Warriors thriving abroad include: Kwimi Sanjo ( Philippines), Eyabi Melvin ( Yaoundé-BEAC), Mua Rudolf ( Finland) and Ebong Nkedi (Cyprus).
