Anglophone Crisis: Referee Ngangqueh Amadou among strike detainees in Buea

A South West Division 2 referee is among scores of persons under detention at the Buea Central Prison in connection with the on-going socio-political tension in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon.

Talking to Volcanic Sports on Thursday 5 Ocotber, 2017, Mr Ngangqueh Amadou said he was arrested on Sunday October 1, 2017, at about 4 pm, while on his way to his Mutengene home from Mile 14, where he visited an Uncle.

"I left for my house thinking that places were already calm as I felt. Unfortunately, a gendarmarie truck, up from Mutengene around the hill, stopped in front me. They asked for ID, which presented plus my professional card. But after viewing, one of them said in french 'ti vas monter'," Ngangqueh recounted.

Relatives, friends, sympathizers queue up for necessary formalities to see detainees at Buea Central Prison 

The 33-year-old lastly handled the match Victoria United versus Bau Manibok, in the South West regional football championship. 

Mr Ngangqueh who hails from Baba 1, a locality in the NW region of Cameroon, said he was not part of those out to protest. 

Sources close to the referee say his wife, a nursing mother, is frustrated.
