Coach Kanfory Bangoura sacked as Guinea make early CHAN exit
Guinea coach Kanfory Lappe Bangoura has become the first coaching casualty at the Total African Nations Championship Morocco 2018.
Bangoura was given the sack moments after a 3-1 loss to host Morocco on Wednesday in Casablanca, a result which saw the Syli National become the first team to crash out of the competition.
“Kanfory Lappe Bangoura has officially been sacked. The decision was taken Wednesday night, just after the elimination of the Syli National. An extraordinary meeting was held at the team’s hotel with president of the Guinea Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT), Antonio Souare, members of the FEGUIFOOT Executive Committee and the Ministry of Sports in attendance.
It was unanimously decided to relieve Bangoura of his duties as head coach. The reason is due to the unsatisfactory results. Assistant coach, Ibrahima Sory Toure, will be in charge of the final Group A match against Mauritania on Sunday in Marrakech.
He will have his first session on Thursday evening. Back home, the federation will proceed with the appointment of a new coach for the Syli National,” Guinea Team Media Officer, Bangoura Famara confirmed.
Guinea was touted as one of the favourites of the tournament following their impressive outing in the qualifiers. They also finished fourth at the last edition in Rwanda two years ago.
