Cameroon dismisses Belgian Coach after only 8 wins in 25 games

Hugo Broos has been sacked as the Coach of Cameroon by the country’s football normalisation committee.

A communiqué was signed to that effect on Monday following a Monday morning meeting by the members of the FECAFOOT normalisation committee.

According to the release, Broos who has enjoyed a successful spell in charge of the Indomitable Lions having led the team to victory during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations was mainly fired for failing to qualify team Cameroon for the 2018 World Cup.

The decision signed by Barrister happi Dieudonne, Barrister Ambomo Marcelle Denise, Messrs Njomo Kevin, Bellet Edimo and Oumarou Abdou also cited  the famous Brussels Scandal.

The 65-year-old now leaves the lucrative job after being shortlisted for CAF Coach of the Year Award alongside Héctor Cúper, Hussein Amotta, Gernot Rohr and Mihayo Kazembe.

Mr Broos managed 25 games recording 8 wins, 10 draws & 7 losses. His last matches were the 2-2 draw against Zambia at the final 2018 World Cup qualifier in Ndola and the 2-0 victory over Algeria in Yaoundé. 

Since becoming trainer of the Indomitable Lions on 13 February 2016, Broos has experienced two humiliating performances: the 4-0 loss to Nigeria on September 1, 2017 in Uyo, for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, and the 4-0 defeat by Colombia on the 13th of June this year.

Apart from coaching Cameroon, Broos has vast experience as a manager, having won the Belgian Championship twice with Club Brugge and then again with Anderlecht. 

He has also enjoyed spells in Greece, Turkey and Algeria in recent years.
