Wilfried Zaha set for a £50 million switch to Manchester City
Four years after leaving Manchester United; the winger has taken his game to a different level at Crystal Palace and has been the main man behind an amazing escape from relegation.
Wilfried Zaha is closing in on a £50million move to Premier League champions Manchester City – less than four years after being branded a Manchester United exit.
The 25-year-old winger has reinvented his game back at Crystal Palace and has been the inspiration behind an amazing escape from relegation under former England boss Roy Hodgson.
Now his consistent displays have caught the attention of City boss Pep Guardiola who despite running away with the title is determined to strengthen again in the summer.
That means adding a match winning wide man to his squad. In January he had a £60million bid for Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez turned down
There is still interest in the Algerian but because of his outstanding performances in recent weeks Guardiola has taken a shine to Zaha.
If he is successful in his overtures to Palace over the player who has chosen to represent The Ivory Coast rather than England then it will represent an amazing turnaround for the player.
In January 2013 Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson made a successful £15million bid for the winger.
But Zaha never made the grade at Old Trafford and was involved in a few rows with Ferguson's successor David Moyes and the United staff
He only made two Premier League appearances at United before moving back to Palace for a knockdown fee of around £3million plus add ons.
Now he is in the form of his career having helped mastermind Palace’s great escape – something which has come to Guardiola’s notice.
And Hodgson is resigned to losing Zaha admitting: “It’s inevitable we are going to lose a few good players in the summer.
