MTN Elite 1: Clubs renew dreams as phase 2 commences
The 2-week recess is over and the 18 clubs participating in the 2017-18 MTN Elite 1 championship are bracing up for phase-two action. According to a release by the Secretary General of the Professional League, Pauline Manguele, matchday 18 takes place this weekend, that is on Sunday 13 May, 2018.
In Bafang, Unisport host AS Fortuna. UMS of Loum will challenge Dragon at the Loum ground. Two games will grace the Mbankomo stadium; the first pits embattled title holders Eding Sport to Astres, while Apejes come up against Feutcheu FC in the second encounter.
Leaders Coton Sport look to continue in brilliance at their Garoua fief in a top-of-the-table clash with Fovu. The City of Seven Hills gets really busy with two other games programmed at the FECAFOOT Technical Training Centre in Odza. Colombe of the South square up with visiting New Stars. Hostility will however continue in Odza on Sunday when YAFOOT lock horns with Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda.
YOSA ended phase 1 on 4th place with 28 points, 6 adrift of leaders Coton. Ndoumbe Bosso’s side were credited for conceding a minimal five goals throughout the 17-match segment.
The Limbe Omnisport Stadium Annex 1 will be the point of convergence for fans of the South West Region. Bamboutos face off Aigle of Menoua, before giving way to Union versus Stade Renard of Melong.
It should be noted that a total of 269 goals were scored from 153 games of the first half of the campaign. Most of the goals were scored by 12-time champions Coton (27), 12 of them scored by forward Marius Mouandilmandji.
