MTN Elite 1: YOSA credited for impermeable defence
Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda have been credited for possessing a watertight defence at the first phase of this year’s MTN Elite 1 championship in Cameroon. According to statistics released Monday 30 April, 2018, by the Professional League’s Jean Marie Nkoussa, Ndoumbe Bosso’s side conceded a minimal five goals throughout the 17-match segment.
It is a plus for YOSA who ended the run on 4th place with 28 points, 6 adrift of leaders Coton Sport of Garoua. This achievement is thanks to goalkeeper Adoum Deffalah, as well as left back Bong Lionel, right back Elvis adu Wum and centre back Yves Alain Dooh Moukoko. Like Vocanic Sports earlier reported, YOSA have to overhaul their attacking machinery who fell short of expectation.
A total of 269 goals were scored from 153 games, with an average of 1.75 goals per match. Matchday 2 recorded the least number of goals (11) while matchday 15 produced the highest number (25) of goals. Most of the goals were scored by 12-time champions Coton (27), 12 of them scored by forward Marius Mouandilmandji. Second on the goal chart is FC Dragon’s Rostand Mbai, whose 11 goals helped the centre regional outfit finish 13th with 19 points. Coton’s captain, Niger born Daouda Kamilou, sits 3rd on the chart with 9 goals.
Coton lost only once unlike bottom side Aigle who suffered 11 defeats. It’s surprising that though Menoua Eagles recorded most defeats, Dragon and Apejes are instead the clubs that conceded the highest number of goals (22 each). It should be noted that the top three: Coton, UMS and Fovu registered 9 victories each. On the other hand, Aigle won only 2 games in 17 outings.
Matchday 18 yet unprogrammed by LFPC:
Coton v Fovu
Yafoot v YOSA
Bamboutos v Aigle
Eding v Astres
Union v Stade Renard
Colombe v New Stars
UMS v Dragon
Unisport v AS Fortuna
