Coton FC dominate1st half of Cameroon’s top league

Coton Sport of Garoua have championed the first half of Cameroon’s top football league with 34 points despite drawing 2-2 with Dragon on Sunday 29 April, 2018, at Mbankomo. Managerial change arguably played the trick for the cotonites, owing to the fact that Kamilou Dauda and team mates have risen from their ruins ever since Minkreo Birwe ceded his position to Ebwelle Bertin.

The nine matches counting for the 17th and last day of the first-legs saw five wins and four draws, producing 18 goals. In Mile Six Nkwen, Yong Sports Academy shrugged off their 3-match winless woes with a 1-0 victory over misfiring Aigle of Menoua. This break offers Minkreo’s side a big chance to reflect having recorded 11 defeats, 4 draws and just 2 wins in 16 games.

On their part, YOSA who have managed 4th spot with 28 points will be stretching their hands more than the bones in them if fresh attacking feet aren’t brought over.

The big surprise of the campaign so far are Fovu of Baham. The newcomers have brilliantly ended the first half of the league in the top three. They amassed 32 points despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Stade Renard in Dschang on Sunday.

It is absolutely disappointment for DRC’s Magloire Mfutila, whose Feutcheu were once table toppers. The Bandjoun club are inconsolably hanging on the 6th place with 27 points, going on break with a humiliating 2-0 defeat to New Stars of Douala.

Other newcomers Yaoundé Foot are still in troubled waters. Yafoot slipped zero to one to visiting Bamboutos at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé, with new Coach Guy Bertin Djiepnang nervously leading the technical bench.

2016 champions UMS have kept their steam. After a barren draw at home to defending champions Eding Sport, the Loum side stay second, 2 points adrift of Coton. It is clear that they are veritable title contenders, unlike Eding with just a score of points at mid table. Their inglorious title defence recently took a different dimension with the coming of Coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck, who succeeds Jean Sebastien Batta. Despite massive signings during the transfer window, the Lekie club have won just three games out of 16.
