Ekondo-Titi and Buea Emerge Champions of Two-day Great Tennis Tournament in Buea

The tennis team of Ekondo-Titi of Ndian Division has won the just ended David Cup Series tennis event in the University of Buea. The two-day tournament which began on Saturday 11th of April saw 16 tennis outfits converge on the tennis court of UB including Limbe, Akwaya, Isangele, Fontem, Ekondo-Titi, Nguti, Wabane, Kumba, Mamfe, Muyuka, Eyumojock, Tiko, Tombel, Bakassi, Bangem and Buea.

The organiser of the tournament who doubles as the head coach of the UB Tennis Family, Oben Nkongho Rudolf, said he was amazed with the turnout of both players and fans. This tennis giant of the South West Region says his dream is to take tennis to the threshold of various facets of the region. To him, tennis is love, health, wealth and life.

In the Ladies’ Event, only 5 teams battled for the precious trophy, Limbe, Kumba, Mamfe, Buea and Tombel. Buea slammed Limbe by 2 sets to 1 to emerge champions of the Great Region Tennis competition in the female category. This was the most exciting fixture given that both teams were locked in a Fako derby. The Davis Cup Series and “Advantage-in” tennis showdown has gone down memory lane but not without blistering lessons: “UB and the SWR are a tennis off-shoot with the man Oben Nkongho Rudolf.”
Of course the deed has been done with utterances made like the preceding. However, the upcoming All Varsity Games in the Yaounde 1 University this May will be a veritable testing ground for ambitions.
